The competitive job market is not the same as it was a few years ago. Today it is more intense and lack of access to certain certificates can mean a "career disaster". One of the important professional certificates in the world of job competition is the PMP, which stands for Project Management Professional. The PMP is issued by PMI, the Project Management Institute which is recognized in the world of work and it is seen as "one of the most in-demand" by job seekers.
Today, there are more than one million PMP certification holders and that means they are considered to have gone through the PMP training successfully. With more than one million certificate holders, PMP is inevitably considered one of the benchmarks of whether a project worker is qualified or not. But does PMP really matter in a project management career? Let's discuss it!
Is PMP certification really necessary?
Of course, the answer is relative, you can answer yes or no but objectively there wouldn't be more than a million PMP certification holders if it wasn't important. And remember, their numbers are growing year on year! They (PMP certification holders) come from more than 200 countries, adding to the credibility of PMP and of course PMI as the organization. The correlation of the PMP certificate in the project management world is that it is a recognized form of professional credibility, in-depth knowledge, and greater earning potential. Those three elements are enough to illustrate how the "impression" a PMP certificate holder displays in the world of work.
Any evidence of that?
Today, the average salary of PMP holders is higher and reportedly 13% higher in Europe and 16% higher globally. This alone shows that it is very important and recognized. And not just recognition, surveys show that those who graduate from PMP training are on average more competent and credible in solving project management problems, no matter which sector they work in.
There is a reason why this is so. Going through PMP training is not just about paying and waiting a while. A prospective candidate must go through a rigorous assessment and in the midst of his studies, he is given new knowledge and skills as well as a deepening of the skills that have been mastered so that later after graduating and being authorized as a certificate holder he is truly capable in his field. Thus the recruiting company will not be disappointed and get reciprocity commensurate with the increase in salary given. Win-win solution!
According to a PMI Earning Power Report: Project Management Salary Survey - Twelfth Edition in 2021, from a survey in 40 countries, more than 22% of respondents stated that they experienced an increase in salary only in the first year after they obtained PMP certification.
A large community
Being a PMP certification holder is not only about increasing salaries but also expanding relationships in the world of project management which is certainly very useful for increasing experience, and knowledge, and of course, opening up opportunities for a better career. Imagine you are in the middle of more than a million fellow certificate holders and of course, between you, there will be an exchange of ideas and information for the advancement of your career together.
So what are you waiting for? While you can and are in a positive trend get your PMP certification!
